Meet the Director - Shawn Bentz
Shawn Bentz is currently the Director of Bands at St. Bartholomew Catholic School in Columbus, Indiana. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Indiana University - Bloomington and Masters in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Missouri - Columbia. In addition to directing at St. Bartholomew, Shawn is an active performer with the Columbus City Band, the Sound of Dreams Jazz Band, and other small ensembles.
Shawn is an active composer and arranger having completed over 60 pieces for various instrumental ensembles. Many of these compositions have been premiered by the Stonewall Brigade Band of Saunton, VA and now disbanded trumpet quartet, "Trumpets Fore!" of Columbus, IN.
In 2005, Shawn became a member of the 11th Indiana, Co. D, a local Civil War reenacting unit. As a member of this company, Shawn is the Chief Musician and plays the field drum and the bugle. He has performed the role of reenactments and Living History events including Heritage Days (Hope, IN), Sassafras Days (Vernon, IN), Appomattox Courthouse 150th Anniversary (Appomattox, VA). He also presented lectures on bugling at the 2006-2008 Gettysburg National Reenactments in Gettysburg, PA.
Shawn, his wife Donna, and son Jackson live outside of Waldron, IN. He hopes to return to full time music education in the future as well as beginning to publish many of his arrangements and compositions.
